Recall Qualifies in California

Thousands of Recall Supporters to Gather at State Capitol

(SACRAMENTO) – History has been made by the people of California.

Secretary of State Kevin Shelley, has announced that 1.3 million valid recall signatures have been collected and he is now required by law to instruct Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante to call a special recall election which will be held within the next 60 to 80 days.

Recall supporters will now celebrate the certification of the recall ballot measure with a giant YES on RECALL” rally at the State Capitol building in Sacramento this Saturday, July 26 from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the North Steps of Capitol building (11th & L Streets).

Several candidates for Governor will formally announce their campaigns at this huge pro-Recall rally on Saturday.

The Chairman of the Recall Gray Davis Committee, The Honorable Howard Kaloogian, made the following statement regarding today’s developments:

“The certification of the recall measure marks a historic step forward for our state. Californians have lost confidence in Gray Davis because he has created problems and has no plans to solve them or to lead us towards a brighter future. The people have now exercised their constitutional equivalent to a “lemon law” and will remove Gray Davis from office.

“Until now Gray Davis has had two great legacies while Governor: the energy crisis of brown outs, black outs, and historically high prices locked in for decades, as well as the largest budget deficit in the history of this nation. He is going to now have a third great legacy, he will become the first Governor to ever be recalled in California history.”

“This Saturday, thousands of ordinary Californians will celebrate today’s news at a giant ‘YES on RECALL’ rally just outside the Governor’s office. It will mark an important step in the effort to reclaim the government sending the message that we want our government to be accountable.”
